Zeezucht (Jonas and the Sea)

Marlies van der Wel (2015)

Sinopsi

There is just one place Jonas has been dreaming about it since he was a kid: the sea. Under the waves, with the fish, is the only place in the world that he feels as home. See the sea or swim in it isn’t enough for Jonas. He wants to be part of it. He spends all day long in the beach looking for things to build peculiar machines to be able to live a new live under the sea.
Time passes and when he becomes a mature man, Jonas has to face the increasing limitations of his old body and his inventions. He doesn’t have much time left to achieve his dream.

Marlies van der Wel is an animator and Dutch illustrator. Her short films have been internationally avowed around the world. Marlies’ illustrations are the result of the delicate process of collage of weaving drawings, textures and objects. Her creations get live through a technique that Marlies name “recut digital animation”, but that the rest of the people call “magic”.
Currently, she is working in her fourth animation short film, released in the Dutch Cinema Festival in 2018.
